About Me
Esther (she/her) is an ACA Level 2 Accredited Counsellor based in Australia, offering online counselling with a focus on supporting Cantonese-speaking clients. This space is for people who don’t want to perform, over-explain, or “have it all together” before reaching out. The style of counselling is gentle, steady, and down‑to‑earth.
My background
-
Queensland University of Technology (QUT) – Master of Counselling (Distinction)
-
The University of Hong Kong (HKU) – Bachelor of Education in English Education and Bachelor of Arts
Esther’s professional practice is grounded in a one‑year clinical placement at the QUT health clinic and ongoing crisis support work with Lifeline. These roles have offered her many chances to stay steady alongside big emotions and to see how powerful it is when someone feels genuinely heard.
How I see counselling
Counselling here is not about giving advice. It is about having someone sit beside you while we sort through what feels heavy or stuck—listening properly so you can hear yourself more clearly and move at your own pace.
Why I became a counsellor
My path to counselling began in the classrooms of Hong Kong. As a secondary teacher, I saw firsthand how easily emotional wellbeing can be sidelined in the pursuit of academic results. I realized that the pressures we face—from family systems to social expectations—don't disappear as we grow up; they simply change shape and stay with us. Over time, I felt a deep pull to nurture rather than coach, wanting to support the whole person instead of just the outcome. That shift from performance to presence is what ultimately led me to this work.
Why Cantonese-based counselling
Even with fluent English, emotions land differently in a first language. Cantonese-based counselling removes the exhaustion of “translating” vulnerability, making the space feel more immediate, accurate, and safe.
Working together
At the moment, Esther offer individual online counselling sessions. If you are considering support but aren’t quite sure where to start, you are welcome to book a free 30‑minute introductory chat. This is a low‑pressure space to meet, ask any questions you have, and see if we feel like a good fit for working together. If we decide to proceed, we’ll move at a pace that feels safe and manageable.
