My Approach
A genuine connection is the paramount factor towards a therapeutic outcome. Therefore, at Connected Islands, I prioritise building a non-judgemental space, transparency of my practice models, attentive listening to the issues you bring to our conversation. I utilise a blend of post-modern therapies including Narrative Therapy (NT) and Solution-focused Brief Therapy (SFBT).
Narrative Therapy
You are not the problem; the problem is the problem.
Focusing on your identity, beliefs and values, Narrative Therapy can be a way to empower your voice and your strengths. You can move forward with sustainable solutions that fit you as a person.
Narrative therapy can be especially helpful if you feel stuck in unhelpful labels (which may include family roles, social expectations, or inner critics). Social narratives likes to draw our attention through anxiety-provoking ideas telling us where we are doing wrong.
In our conversations, we slow down to understand the problem and your current coping skills, so you can see how your strengths and values can be used in this situation.
Together, we open up space for choices and hope, and explore next steps that feel like you.
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
Solution‑focused brief therapy is a practical, future‑oriented way of working together. It can be especially helpful if you feel overwhelmed and want clear next steps rather than going over every detail of the past.
In our conversations, we’ll talk about what ‘better’ might look like for you, notice times when things were even a little bit easier, and draw out the skills you already have. Together, we turn these into small, doable actions so you can move toward the life you prefer.
